Abstract
In elderly persons, the foot, as well as other parts of the body, is particularly vulnerable to many problems which can arise from vascular, osteoarticular, cutaneous, tendinomuscular or neurogenic disorders. Specific treatment, whatever the lesion, is needed. Chiropodic treatments include specialized or custom-made shoes (possibly with a therapeutic purpose), plantar ortheses, toe ortheses or plastic surgery. Practitioners should be more aware of the mechanical actions of these ortheses which should be prescribed more. For many elderly patients with foot disorders, they are irreplaceable.
