Abstract
In France, as most of developed countries, the population of dependent elderly causes an increasing concern in the countries of the whole world because of the formidable rhythm of increase in their number and in the cost of their care. In this population, a particular group is that of the cognitive dependent elderly of which their number does not cease growing because in particular of the increase in the prevalence of depressions and senile dementias. In the framework of APA system, the number of these people was evaluated from the cognitive variables of AGGIR (“Autonomie Gérontologie Groupes ISO-Ressources”) scale which were estimated from the HID (“Handicaps-Incapacités-Dépendance”) survey. The cost of care for this population was estimated from the application the current legislation of APA system in 2005 to the population of cognitive dependent elderly from the monthly amounts estimated from the DREES (“Direction de la Recherche des Etudes, de l'Evaluation et des Statistiques”) survey. Most of people having a right to APA system are cognitive dependent elderly, above all in institution. The costs of APA to this population represent 61,6% in the total expenses, which corresponds to an amount of 2,821 millions euros. At last, the study points out these costs of care for cognitive dependent elderly can't be isolated from other forms of costs of care for dependency.
