Abstract
The concept of mild cognitive impairment was introduced in the late 1990 to account for patients who present a memory complaint and a memory impairment compared with age- and education-matched control subjects, but whose deficit is insufficient to meet dementia criteria. Progressively, the concept evolved to include patients with complaint and impaired performances in cognitive domains other than memory. This led to the creation of different subtypes of mild cognitive impairment. To date, the etiology and predictive value of these new subtypes of mild cognitive impairment remains a subject of debate.
