Abstract
Prevalence of malnutrition is very high in hospitalized or institutionalized elderly patients (20-60%). However, “gold standard” for the assessment of nutritional status does not exist and a number of techniques are used. Nowadays, the “mini nutritional assessment” (MNA) is the first choice to detect patients at risk for malnutrition, but, in practice, MNA is rarely completed. Our objective was to select items for a specific scale to detect malnutrition in elderly patients hospitalized in rehabilitation care or in long-term care and easily to complete by the caregivers.
