Abstract
By confronting the works of alcohologists on the detoxification of the long term chronic alcoholic and the psychologists' approach based on the mid-life psychological adjustments, we have been able to develop an integrative psychotherapeutic approach between these two currents. The latter is centred on the mechanisms called “de- degagement” as defined by D. Lagache, that is to say coming to terms with the product and redirecting one's drive energy towards new objects using the sublimation process. We will illustrate our view by following Albert's progress during one stage of his psychotherapeutic treatment.
