Abstract

The International AIDS Society (IAS) Conference on HIV Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention is the world's largest annual conference on HIV/AIDS. Some 5000 international scientists, clinicians, public health experts and community leaders gathered in Rome, Italy between the 17 and 20 July, 2011 to learn and share the latest findings in HIV-related research. Salient topics addressed at the conference included the effectiveness of various antiretroviral treatment (ART), including atazanavir/ritonavir-, darunavir/ritonavir-, raltegravir-, and maraviroc- based regimens, as well as the potential adverse effects of these ART therapies, particularly in terms of their effect on the cardiac and renal systems. This paper highlights some of the most exciting findings presented.
