Abstract
PTS is a rare disease but should be considered when there is pain in the upper extremity or cervical spine or there are neuromuscular signs and symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging can reveal muscle changes associated with PTS: high signal intensity in the muscles of the shoulder girdle with atrophy, compatible with muscle edema associated with denervation. Prognosis is generally favorable, with about 75% of patients showing complete recovery within 2 years. Treatment is symptomatic and is based on analgesic drugs and physical therapy.
