Abstract
Spondylodiscitis is an infectious disease localized in the spine, specifically at the intervertebral disc and the vertebral bodies adjacent to them. This entity may affect any population group, but presents a high incidence over the patients with previous immunosupression. Any infectious agent may cause this process, but there is a high incidende of gram positive coccus. The way to arrive to the spine is hematogenous, although other ways have been described. Besides, the more frecuent localization is the lumbar or the thoracic spine. The sintomatology is frecuently very unespecified, so its diagnosis may be delayed in time even for many months. The knowledge of ethiology and pathophysiology of this infection allows us to understand the disease better and, consecuently establish a diagnosis and early treatment.
