Abstract
The substrates, inducers (such as rifampin) and inhibitors (macrolides) of Cytochromes are generally the same. The final result of metabolic induction or inhibition is an increase (inhibitors) or decrease (inducers) of the activity and toxicity of the substrate drug associated, resulting in either useful or often harmful interactions. The decreased therapeutic response to enzymatic induction does not occur with drugs with active metabolites.
