Abstract
The aim of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is to achieve the optimization of drug use. TDM may increase the probability of successful outcome, prevent drug-related toxicity and potentially prevent the emergence of antifungal drug resistance. Antifungal agents are used either prophylactically, empirically, or for targeted therapy for invasive fungal infections. An improved understanding of antifungal pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics results in therapeutic drug monitoring becoming a valuable adjunct to the routine administration of some antifungal agents.
