Determinants of vaccination coverage for children and teenagers

The official vaccinal program is updated every year. Nevertheless, the observed vaccination coverage does not correspond to the recommended program.ObjectiveOur objective was to identify factors influencing vaccinal practice, especially for hepatitis B.MethodWe sent a questionnaire to two medical populations of the French Loire subdivision: 100 randomly chosen general practitioners, and 53 pediatricians and physicians working for public office for mother and childcare.ResultsThe updated official recommendations were considered as the reference document for both populations. The study did not reveal any hesitation or lack of information, which could explain the low hepatitis B vaccinal coverage. Eighty-five percent of questioned physicians claimed having changed their practice, thanks to the easy use of Infanrix Hexa®, probably explaining the current improvement of hepatitis B vaccinal coverage rate.

RésuméLe calendrier vaccinal officiel, bénéficie d’une mise à jour annuelle. Or, les schémas de vaccinations observés ne correspondent pas toujours au calendrier vaccinal recommandé.ObjectifNotre objectif était d’identifier les facteurs influençant la pratique vaccinale, en particulier pour l’hépatite B.MéthodeNous avons utilisé pour cela un questionnaire adressé à deux populations médicales de la Loire : 100 généralistes tirés au sort, et les 53 pédiatres et médecins de protection maternelle et infantile.RésultatsLes recommandations officielles actualisées apparaissent comme référence pour les deux populations. L’étude ne fait apparaitre ni réticence, ni défaut d’information pouvant expliquer la faible couverture vaccinale pour l’hépatite B. Quatre-vingt-cinq pour cent des médecins interrogés déclarent un changement de pratique grâce à la facilité d’utilisation de l’Infanrix Hexa®, expliquant peut-être l’amélioration actuelle du taux de couverture vaccinale de l’hépatite B.
