Abstract
Acute myocarditis may present with a variety of nonspecific clinical signs, ranging from dyspnoea and general exhaustion to arrhythmias and angina-pectoris-like symptoms. In these patients medical therapy is primarily supportive as the condition resolves spontaneously in most cases. First promising results from smaller trials suggest a clinical benefit from a specific therapy with intravenous immune globulin or interferon β in patients with viral persistence in chronic myocarditis.
