Abstract
Understanding the inherent deficiencies in reference service as provided is critical to providing effective, high quality service. Quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, as well as a combination of both, are being used to evaluate these services. The identification of appropriate research methodology is critical to an effective evaluation. This article is a review of the literature on reference service evaluation, with emphasis on evaluation methodologies.
