Irritable bowel syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome is a common gastroenterological disorder characterized by abdominal pain, diarrhoea or constipation and bloating. The exact pathophysiology remains unknown but possible mechanisms involve altered gut motility, visceral hypersensitivity and exaggerated stress response.
