Abstract
Hypopituitarism is defined as the partial or complete loss of pituitary function. The associated clinical manifestations are often nonspecific and depend on the severity and age at instauration. The major clinical importance of hypopituitarism is that it associates increased morbidity and mortality compared to general population. Changes in body composition, altered lipid profile, hypertension, glucose intolerance and increased pro-inflammatory state involved in the process of atherosclerosis have been described in these patients. In addition, mortality rate is two-fold increased in these patients compared to healthy subjects.
