Abstract
Hypercalcemia occurs in 10% to 20% of those with advanced cancer. It is considered an oncologic emergency. It occurs most frequently in patients with multiple myeloma, lung cancer, prostate cancer and breast cancer. Presenting symptoms include common gastrointestinal and neuropsychiatric symptoms; these include nausea, vomiting, constipation, polyruria and disorientation. Untreated it will lead to coma and death. Current preferred therapies are the saline rehydration with biphosphonate agents.
