Abstract
The development of portal hypertension is the most frequent complication of cirrhosis that includes a wide variety of manifestations conditioning the main cause of mortality in these patients. Variceal hemorrhage has a high mortality, even at the present time, up to 20%, so it's important to establish preventive treatments (primary and secondary). Ascites is one of the first decompensations of cirrhosis worsening survival, reason why these patients must be evaluated as possible candidates to liver transplantation.
