Abstract
Nosocomial diarrhea is defined as an acute episode of diarrhea in a hospitalized patient occurring three or more days after admission. It is a common complication that contributes to morbidity and mortality and increases the cost of hospital stays. It can be caused either by infectious organisms or by noninfectious agents. A diagnostic and management approach to the hospitalized patient with diarrhea is provided.
