Abstract
A number of general or systemic diseases gives raise digestive symptoms. Clinical symptomatology is important, not only by discomfort, b ut because it may change the treatment and prognosis of the primary disease. Given the difficulty to summarize all of them, we will focus in this review on the most prevalent or in those in which digestive symptoms are more prominent. We hereby review diabetes causing gastroparesis and diarrhea, neurological disorders, rheumatic illnesses (with special attention to vasculitides), and digestive symptoms produced by neoplasms. We will also review secondary effects produced by drugs on the gastrointestinal tract.
