Abstract
The results of this study demonstrate that a significant number of nondiabetic, hypertensive patients in ambulatory residency programs have an increased frequency of other cardiovascular risk factors. This study illustrates a method of using an ambulatory registry to identify specific subsets of hypertensive patients at high risk for cardiovascular events within participating practices because of the presence of metabolic syndrome, and demonstrates a mechanism to facilitate comprehensive patient care consistent with the precepts of a patient-centered medical home.
