SummaryRetinal detachment is a separation of the neurosensory retina from the retinal pigment epithelium. The most common form is rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, which occurs as the result of a full-thickness retinal break. Usually it is presented as a visual field defect or decreased visual acuity. With prompt diagnosis and treatment, it has a high success rate. However, retinal detachment continues to be an important cause of reduced visual acuity and blindness, therefore, its prevention is a worthy goal.
