Abstract

•Layered MCM-22 zeolite was utilized for the preparation of β-amino alcohols.•Ring opening of epoxide using amine by MCM-22 catalyst in absence of solvent.•The Catalyst exhibits excellent selectivity towards the mono alkylated product.•Catalyst found to be promising for variety of epoxides and amines.•Catalytic activity remains constant even after three repeated cycles.

β-amino alcohols were synthesized at room temperature employing microporous MCM-22 zeolite as catalyst in an eco-friendly manner without using solvent. The zeolite MCM-22 showed promising activity for the conversion of primary and secondary amines into β-amino alcohols under mild reaction conditions. The catalytic activity remains intact for three recycles.
