Abstract

Amyloidosis is a pathological process characterized by extracellular deposition of proteinaceous substance. This is an endpoint for a variety of disease processes and can be generalised or localised. Amyloidosis of the lower urinary tract is unusual and has varied presentation. It is noted more commonly than expected and may be seen in patients with a background of chronic inflammatory disorders. In those with no preexisting systemic disorder, an incidental finding of an amyloid deposit during investigations for urinary tract symptoms should alert the urologist to arrange appropriate referral/investigations.
