Abstract
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a complex entity and continues to be a source of medical controversy. The most important pathogenic factors are insulin resistance and visceral obesity. The clinical heterogeneity of the syndrome results from its significant influence on protein, glucose, and fat metabolism, cellular growth and differentiation, endothelial function, atherosclerotic disease, and inflammation. MetS is linked to a number of urologic diseases. This article reviews its relationship with hypogonadism.
