Fertility and Sterility: an evaluation

At the end of the Editor-In-Chief’s first 7-year tenure, Fertility and Sterility has emerged as a top-ranking medical specialty publication. It competes internationally as one of two premier peer review journals in reproductive medicine. It is profitable to its publisher and to its sponsor, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). The journal is a prestige publication, a credit to the society it represents, and is appealing to a rapidly expanding international constituency. Relative to 11 criteria of medical journal performance, the journal operates well or exceedingly well, except for excessive publication lag which is in part a consequence of the journal’s success in obtaining new manuscripts.
