Abstract
Painful bladder syndrome is a chronic debilitating condition which is both difficult to diagnose and to treat. Its aetiology and pathogenesis is very poorly understood. It is thought that mast cells and inflammation have a key role in pathogenesis.A diagnosis is generally made after all other potential causes of pain and lower urinary tract symptoms are excluded. Treatment options are very limited but are generally targeted to providing symptomatic relief.
