Abstract
Hysteroscopy allows direct visualization of the uterine and endocervical cavities. Recent innovations in endoscopic techniques have increased the accessibility of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. However, hysteroscopic surgery should be performed by an appropriately trained gynaecologist to ensure safe practice and good patient outcomes. This review discusses the basic principles required to undertake diagnostic and operative hysteroscopic surgery, discuss the newer procedures available and highlight the current evidence behind the use of hysteroscopic surgery in the clinical setting.
