Abstract

Neurological diseases are commonly encountered in women of child-bearing age and pregnancy can pose a unique, if not challenging aspect to their management. A number of conditions exist prior to pregnancy and either the condition itself or its therapy may impact on the pregnancy, labour or delivery. Conversely, pregnancy may interfere with or preclude optimal treatment of some neurological diseases, which highlights the importance of multidisciplinary care in such women. This review outlines the natural history, diagnostic features and management options of a number of common neurological conditions in pregnancy.
