Abstract

Over 700,000 babies are born in the UK each year. Most of them do not require intervention to make the transition from intrauterine to extrauterine life but approximately 10% require some assistance to begin breathing at birth and about 1% require active resuscitation. Training of those attending deliveries may help decrease the incidence of adverse outcomes. All personnel attending deliveries should be trained in neonatal resuscitation.
