Abstract
In this article, we review the available scientific evidence supporting O3FA supplementation in women and provide recommendations. Supplementation with 500Â mg daily O3FA is recommended throughout a woman's life. Daily supplementation should be increased to 1Â g for secondary cardiovascular prevention, to 1.5Â g for menopausal symptoms (hot flashes), and to 2Â g in patients with hypertriglyceridemia. At least 300Â mg docosahexaenoic acid daily is recommended during pregnancy.
