Abstract
ResumenLa hiperemesis gravídica se define como la forma más grave de los vómitos durante la gestación. Ya en el siglo xviii, se describió en la literatura médica como causa de muerte materna por inanición, desenlace que no fue infrecuente hasta el siglo xx. Actualmente, la defunción materna es excepcional.
Hyperemesis gravidarum is seen as the most serious form of vomiting during pregnancy. It was described in the medical literature in the 18th century as a cause of maternal death due to starvation, a not uncommon event until the 20th century. Nowadays maternal death is unusual.
