Abstract
SummaryThe optimal treatment of melanoma involves multidisciplinary care. To many, this means surgical resection of early, localized disease and treatment of metastatic disease with chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or radiation. Because it is effective, results in little morbidity and may be repeated, surgery should have a central role in the treatment of selected patients with American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage IV melanoma.
