PurposeRefractive Clear Lens Extraction tends to be the major procedure in surgical correction of presbyopia, thanks to the advent of new generation of multifocal IOLs. We report a comparative assessment in patient visual comfort achieved with a specific software designed for near vision analysis.Materials and Methods38 hyperopic patients of more than 45 years old, got a bilateral lens removal and a randomized IOL implantation: 20 received a Tecnis (Silicone, aspherical prolate anterior surface) and 18 a Restor (hydrophobic acrylic one piece, apodized diffractive surface). In addition to conventional measurements of quantitative and qualitative vision, patients were tested for quality of life using the “slowfast” software.ResultsThis software offers various options: speed reading, defocus curve calculation, simulations of current life visual situations, intermediate and near vision measurements. Both group achieved an excellent near vision. Intermediate vision appears to be better with Tecnis multifocal. 90% of patients are not anymore dependant of glasses after surgery.
