Abstract
One thousand fifty-five consecutive unselected cataract extractions with the phacoemulsifier were studied. Results indicate a definitely decreased incidence of CME if the posterior capsule is left intact permanently (Table 6), which is possible with a careful technique using the phacoemulsifier.
