Abstract
The DXA is currently used for the medical monitoring of sports with weight class (judo, wrestling) or with weight requirements such as rugby (follow-up of fat mass and lean mass). We used DXA (advantages: relatively low cost and low exposure to radiations) to detect bone spine morphotypes and especially to measure the pelvic incidence and to detect some anatomical anomalies of the lumbar spine. Thirty-three rugby players from the training centre of the AS montferrandaise were studied during the 2009-2010 season. DXA allows the measure of body composition, bone mineral density and spine morphology in order to determine the effects of both training and nutrition. It also allows to establish a specific training program adapted to the spine morphology and, if necessary, adapted to the anomaly detected during this exam.
