Abstract
We followed two teams of young rugby players for two seasons to determine the incidence of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears in these young athletes (2.45/1000 playing hours). Risk factors were quality of the playing field and insufficient physical training. In light of the data in the literature, we consider that prevention based on awareness of the risk factors can and should play a crucial role in decreasing the incidence of these serious sports accidents.
