Abstract
Isolated fractures of the trochiter occur specifically in alpine skiers. Several anatomic types have been described: fractures involving the entire trochiter, partial fracrtures, opercular fractures. Two mechanisms have been identified: contusion and detachment. The clinical presentation can be immediate shoulder impotency or late-onset shoulder pain. For diagnosis, ultrasonography can be a useful complement to the standard x-ray. Most cases can be treated orthopedically but various modalities have been described depending on the anatomic type and the clinical context. Complications occur in some cases, particularly joint stiffness.
