Abstract

Anteromedialization of the tibial tubercle (Fulkerson operation) predictably leads to pain reduction and better function in initial and moderate patellofemoral arthritis. This result has been shown in the literature and is supported by our own worl. Indications are based on symptoms, clinical evaluation, s-rays, and magnetic resonance imaging. The Fulkerson operation combines recentering of the patella and reduction of patellofemoral contact pressure. Rehabilitation lasts for 6 to 8 months because anteromedialization leads to a temporary weakening of the proximal tibia. Proximal tibial fracture is a complication of Fulkerson’s osteotomy if the tibia is stressed to early.
