Abstract
Proximal row carpectomy is a time tested management technique for wrist arthritis. This review article describes the surgical technique for proximal row carpectomy as well as the indications and post-operative protocol. Alternative methods of treatment are contrasted with proximal row carpectomy. A modification of the standard technique using a dorsal capsular interposition is also described that may be used to extend the indications for the procedure to those not traditionally considered good candidates for proximal row carpectomy. A review of the literature presents the results of the procedure and its modification.
