Abstract
Microfracture is a marrow stimulating technique used in the treatment of full-thickness chondral defects. In the case of osteochondritis dissecans lesions, which are unstable and require extraction, microfracture is a viable treatment option. It is a relatively simple procedure that can be done in conjunction with other arthroscopic procedures and require minimal equipment. Careful surgical technique, including removal of the calcified cartilage layer as well as adherence to a stringent postoperative regimen, is critical to the long-term success of this procedure.
