Abstract
Meniscal injuries in children and adolescents are more common than previously appreciated. Meniscal preservation is the hallmark of treatment in this age group based on the vascular supply of the peripheral meniscus and its ability to heal. Meniscectomy is to be avoided if at all possible because of the long-term consequences of degenerative osteoarthritis of the knee joint.
