Abstract
Total knee replacement (TKR) is a very effective procedure for pain relief and restoration of function, after failure of conservative treatment. Approximately 75 000 such procedures are performed annually in England and Wales. All surgical interventions carry inherent risk of complications; this article explores the common complications associated with TKR, including their aetiology and management, and discusses suggested risk reduction strategies.
