Abstract
Osteomyelitis causes bone death, soft-tissue compromise, functional impairment and systemic illness and considerable morbidity. There are several distinct forms which present considerable management challenges. Recent advances have led to new powerful techniques for the eradication of infection and restoration of function. Surgery remains central to treatment for chronic osteomyelitis and some acute presentations. However, multi-disciplinary working is essential to achieve satisfactory outcomes.
