Abstract
The relevant anatomical structures around the hip are considered in relation to medial, anterolateral and posterior approaches to the joint. Paediatric conditions that make this surgical facility necessary include developmental dysplasia and dislocation of the hip, septic arthritis, slipped upper femoral epiphysis and the removal of benign tumours and loose bodies.
