Abstract
The authors reported eight patients (seven males and one female) of 38-years-old operated before the 15th day for a fracture-dislocation of the proximal interphalangeal joint with a PIP-stop pin. In four cases, the fracture involved more than 40% of the articular surface of the second phalange. In six cases, the PIP-stop pinning was isolated. In two cases, one to three pins was associated. At the mean follow-up of 21 months, the arc of motion of the PIP was 74° (40 to 100), with a mean extension loss of 10°. The mean motion of the DIP was 57,5° (30 to 80). The mean intensity of the pain was 0,8 on 10 with a maximum of two. The Quick DASH was 2,6 (0 to 6,8). Neither septic complication nor surgical revision was observed. This single technique seems to be as effective as more complicated techniques, even when the surface of the fracture is considerable.
