Abstract
The classic theory postulates that the origin of the VËO2max limitation is located at the muscle level. However, it was recently proposed that the central nervous system can be at the origin of this limitation. In this context, it seems necessary to review the effects of changes of O2 supply on VËO2max in order to reexamine the role of O2 availability as a limiting factor of VËO2max.
