Abstract
Revision total hip arthroplasty is becoming increasingly common. The surgical approach used to enter the hip can vary based on anatomy, surgical complexity, surgeon comfort, and experience. Traditionally, the posterior approach has been the most common surgical approach, with the direct lateral and anterior approaches used less frequently. Each approach has its advantages and disadvantages. The purpose of this article is to describe each of these approaches, including some of the clinical pearls, advantages, and disadvantages of each.
