Abstract
Novel surgical techniques and design improvements of total ankle arthroplasty implants have expanded the indications of motion-sparing procedures over arthrodesis in the treatment of arthritic conditions of the ankle and hind foot. The purpose of this article is to review the challenging clinical scenario of combined ankle and subtalar arthritis. The pathogenesis and biomechanics of combined ankle and subtalar arthritis, the approach to management, and available treatment options are presented with an emphasis on the role of arthroplasty.
