Abstract
Minimally invasive total hip replacement (MIS THR) achieved popularity and piqued patient interest before many surgeons even knew whether it was a medically effective option. Now it has been demonstrated that MIS THR offers significant benefits to patients, including reduced anxiety, higher expections, greater confidence, and, perhaps most prominently, a more rapid early recovery. Each surgeon must weigh the risk-to-benefit ratio of MIS THR for each patient based on the surgeon's individual skill and experience and the physical and mental needs of the patient.
