Abstract
Two-incision total hip arthroplasty (THA) represents a unique approach to THA in which muscle planes are preserved and no muscles are cut. It is a reliable and reproducible technique when performed properly in the appropriately selected patient. This technique affords the potential for earlier return to activities and possibly less postoperative pain, thus resulting in a more gratifying surgical experience. A single surgeon’s initial experience of 400 two-incision THAs is presented. There was a significant decrease in operative time, fluoroscopic usage, and complication rates as more comfort and experience were gained with this technique. Modifications to the original technique are presented.
